XD To me it seemed that he wasn't so much a villain as just misguided - after all, if a kegendary dragon appears to you to tell you your dream is possible and how to accomplish it, you'll probably tend to take their word for it. And notice that once in possession of the facts, both he and Reshiram turned right around. Sure he trapped and hurt Victini, which was obviously bad, but he did intend to release it as soon as he'd moved the castle. Which was all really lousy reasoning on his part. Really, really lousy reasoning. Which was why he wasn't picked for his ideals. XD
